  10. This program is written for people who inherit dBase III or compatible
  11. data files, but want an easier way to to 'get a handle' on their data.
  12. dBSEARCH allows direct editing of dBase type data files--without dBase!
  13.
  14. With dBSEARCH the user can do the following (and more) with dBase III
  15. data files:
  16.
  17. ~ ``Point and shoot'' loading of any file, any path.
  18.
  19. ~ Browse records in various view-styles.
  20.
  21. ~ Search for records using a search template which can include up to 7
  22. fields and their ranges or values.
  23.
  24. ~ Sort the file based upon any three fields (numeric fields can be
  25. combined with text, date, etc.).
  26.
  27. ~ Print current status (filename, number of records, finds, etc).
  28.
  29. ~ Print records (some or all fields, indexed or not, finds-only or not).
  30.
  31. ~ Construct and print address labels (indexed or not, etc.)
  32.
  33. ~ Construct a new database file composed of fields from the original and
  34. containing records (indexed order or not, etc.).
  35.
  36. ~ save current (filename, path) settings to disk.
  37.
  38. dBase III data files of any size can be loaded.  However, searching and
  39. indexing can only cover 32000 records.  Up to 128 fields can be
  40. displayed and selected.  Memo fields (free form dBase fields) are
  41. ignored by the program.
  42.
  43. The program uses pull-down (highlighted sliding selection bars)
  44. exclusively.  The search template is very convenient and intuitive, yet
  45. also extremely flexible.  Data files are not modified by the program,
  46. thus ensuring that data will not be destroyed by the user.  Only new
  47. forms of existing data can be created.
  48.
